Neck and back pain are the two most common diagnosis for Physical Therapists. They can be caused by a myriad of things including injury, disease process, impaired posture, stress, and faulty exercise technique. One of the first things your Physical Therapist will do is perform a thorough evaluation to better understand where and why your spine is being stressed. Many times, you may be surprised to learn that your neck/back pain is often related to a neighboring area like your shoulder or your hip. Your Physical Therapist will go over their findings with you help you understand why neck or back pain may be related to another body region that will also need to be addressed.
